"We need AI training." To do what?

Lately I'm hearing a lot of: "We need AI training."

And my response is always a gentle pushback: "To do what?"

Not to be difficult, but because the value of AI doesn't come from learning prompts or features. It comes from applying AI to meaningful work.

When organisations skip straight to training, they miss the strategic conversation:

  • What business problem are we trying to solve?

  • What workflow needs improvement?

  • What risk needs reducing?

  • What capability gap actually exists?

AI training is powerful, but only when it's purposeful.

Those questions deserve real thought. A good place to start is to look honestly at what's falling behind, or what could be improved if you simply had a few more hands. That's where your AI use cases are likely to be hiding.

And those use cases will look very different depending on who you are and what you do. The application for a graphic designer is unlikely to look anything like the one for someone in finance, and that's the point.

Start with the "what". Then design the "how".
